In this era of downloads and internet shopping, more and more people are deprived of the joy of browsing through racks of cds, looking for bargains, surprises, or just that special recording.

Grove Music, downstairs at The Grove Bookshop, offers a wide range of classical new releases, jazz on cd and vinyl, and a back catalogue of classic recordings in folk, jazz, classical and rock music. Rediscover the joy of browsing in our cosy basement shop.

The Joys of Winter

Mon 4th Nov 13

There has to be an upside to these long, dark nights. As Ilkley recovers from the Literature Festival, we have arranged two intriguing events to get you out of the house. On Thursday 28th November you are invited to The Flying Duck, on Church Street, where you can sit by a roaring fire, sample Wharfedale Brewery's fine local ale and enjoy an account of the trials and tribulations of a pub landlord. Neil Hanson, popular author and speaker, ran the Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in the country, and he will be reading from his new book, The Inn at the Top. Tickets are £3, available here at the shop, and include a free pint!

Then a week later, writer and photographer Mark Davis will be here to discuss his two new books. Asylum Voices tells the stories of the inmates of the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum, while Murder by Gaslight in Victorian Bradford recounts some grisly tales from the city's past. Tickets will be £3, and refreshments are included.
